I've been seeing a lot of craft and design challenges on my favourite blogs lately and thought to myself "hey, that would be a good way to keep the creative juices flowing.' And being just a little bit on the type A side I decided to not go with one of those namby-pamby 52 week challenges where you just make one new thing a week. Oh no, not me!!!
Starting June 1, 2012 I, Caroline Horne will make a new piece of jewelry every day for a year. I intend to document the process with pictures and the occasional 'how-to' for those who want to work along. You'll probably see a lot of earrings, but there are necklace and bracelet designs sitting on the back burner that I haven't got to yet. Unless the critter latches onto what has been made that day it will be listed in my ETSY store.
To be honest the reason for the June 1 start is because while I'm made some headway in the studio (I found the table ;-) I have yet to put away my latest supply spending spree. I find that although I'm an everything out that I could possibly need sort of designer the fact that EVERYTHING is currently out overwhelms me and I can't think. I figure that two weeks should be sufficient time to get stuff in order and start to work.

Well... it's been forever since I last posted an update. I need to get more disiplined about doing this so that my loyal readers (all two of you:D) will have something new to read.
I had a good Christmas season and the first cruise ship of the year was well worth the over nine hours on my feet. We were set up on a slope so my wheeled chair was a bit of a challenge to sit on. If I grabbed my table as I sat it didn't roll too far. However, every time I stood up off it would go. I swear it was channeling it's inner cat.
My studio has become a challenge again as well. A very generous lady from the church I go to has gifted me with her life's stash of needlework supplies. Her plan was to spend her retirement doing something she loved, but unfortunately she started to lose her vision and is unable to see well enough to work on the fine linens even with vision aids. So as well as having all of my jewelry supplies in the studio, I'm making room for drawers of needlework stuff, the critters crafty stuff (and her bead stash) and still have space to have clients in as well as work. When I get it all under control I will post a picture.
I've recently opened an Etsy store, now all I have to do is take photos of some of my work and list them. I hope to start doing that the next sunny day (or else research light boxes). My biggest challenge will be to decide what to list. I have my favourites that I hope will
never sell so they can become someone elses favourite.

As I sit here typing this blog I realize that I haven't made a single piece of jewelry since Christmas. With not having a workable space in our old digs, being extremely sick and moving I just haven't been motivated or creative. I hope that changes soon.
We are still unpacking so far we've managed the kitchen, bedrooms and have almost found the dining room:D. The cats are loving all the hidey holes among the boxes and they may be the only ones that will miss them when everything is unpacked and put in it's place.
As far as my studio goes (ie the smallest bedroom in the townhouse) I'm waiting for a table that I ordered through my local Rona store. I'm not sure what my excuse will be once I have it as right now it's 'I don't have a surface to sort stuff on.' Lame yes, but it's my excuse an I'm sticking to it. When it's set up and organized I'll post a picture.

Well, found out about a week ago that I was a runner up in Canadianbeading.ca's "A Windy Fall Day" contest. I've learned to be patient with them because when you're selected as a finalist they tell you to expect your entry back by the end of "X" month. Well... you wait and wait and wait some more, then about a month past when they said you get your entry back you get either a box or big envelope from them with your jewelry, five copies of the magazine and your prize. Obviously good things come to those who wait. I hope to never get a fast return from them:D.
Fallen Leaves has now been placed in the store and is available for purchase.

Well, it's Friday night and what's done is done and if I have time to make more pieces I'll be happy but as it stands I need to think about packing up. The logistics of displaying my creations and singing in a concert all in the same show are insane. Perhaps I am too. You never realize until you start in this kind of business how much work goes into simply displaying the jewellery. There's lighting, display stands, pricing the work, finding a plain white table cloth (more to follow) and getting everything to the venue in one piece.
Believe it or not, I've spent since mid-fall trying to find a tablecloth. Black would have been ideal but I knew there was no way I'd ever find one so I decided to go with the trite but popular white. Well, I finally found a white tablecloth last week. It's not plain, but it is white and will do till I manage to co-erce someone into sewing on for me.
